Detailing Materials
The detailing process begins with gathering all the necessary materials. Start by referring to the user manual that came with your boat for a list of recommended cleaning products. These may include marine soap, wax remover, vinyl cleaner, glass cleaner, carpet cleaner, and metal polish. Some other helpful tools include sponges, cleaning brushes, towels, a large bucket, a vacuum cleaner, a chamois cloth, and a hose with an adjustable spray nozzle.
Washing and Waxing
Once you have gathered all your supplies, you can proceed with washing and waxing your boat. First, rinse your boat from top to bottom, then thoroughly wash it using marine soap. Work section by section, making sure to rinse each section before the soap dries.
To maintain its beautiful finish, your boat should be waxed every 2 to 4 months. When it’s time for a fresh coat of wax, start by removing the old wax using a dewaxing product and a series of clean rags. Remember to switch rags frequently while applying the dewaxing product to avoid spreading around the old wax. Once the old wax has been completely removed, follow the instructions on the product label to apply a fresh layer of wax.
Detailing Process
Once your boat is washed and waxed, you can focus in on the smaller details. Depending on the specific features of your boat, detailing may involve the following tasks:
